Once Were Saints

A poem of loss

Once were Saints
With beatific blood
On beds of stone in halls of prayer
Burning silent candles and incense at midnight
Penitent flesh wrapped around weeping souls
Crying out for mercy
Casting the shadow of angelic protection
Over the damned trials of ten million
Lost and broken
Hearts
